“Past Lives” is why film students start with short films. It felt like a grad school-level screenplay, and in execution it was more tone poem than providing any actual depth or character development.
I couldn't agree more about Women Dressing Women! I just wanted more -- images of the shops, vintage ads, several examples of the individual designers' work. It felt rudimentary to me and I've picked up a lot of fashion history but am in no way an expert.
Yessss! I went to see the Women Dressing Women exhibit at the MET Friday night and left feeling disappointed as well - you took the words out of my mouth. The layout of the Costume Center leaves much to be desired which didn't help matters much. It's a shame that there hasn't been a fashion exhibit at the Met that has truly moved us since McQueen...
COMPLETELY agree on past lives. You nailed it. No depth…I liked a lot about it but ultimately did not care or believe in the connection the two leads supposedly had.
The McQueen show was something else. I’m not sure anyone will match that for some time. Not sure if the Dior show went to the US? I saw that in Paris and it was dreamy. And I’m in awe of Galliano at Margiella, he’s so unique and I’m definitely reading the article you linked☺️
Have you watched The Traitors Season 2 great TV. Also I agree with you about Past Lives, I enjoyed the movie but the emotional depth I was not seeing it like some people was.

Great! I write about Japan and Japanese culture regularly, having grown up in Tokyo and studied Japanese history
